The prevention of workplace violence has emerged as an important safety issue in and around hospitals, healthcare facilities, and off-site locations such as clients’ homes and residential facilities. Healthcare is considered high risk with regard to workplace violence by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

 

The negative impact of workplace aggression, threats, bullying, assaults, and other forms of violence is far reaching, costly, and damaging to an organization. A work environment with hostile interactions negatively impacts staff health and wellbeing, reduces employee retention, increases absenteeism, and lowers productivity, morale, and job satisfaction.
